On the start of my 17 Mile Drive in Pacific Grove, I stopped at the rugged Asilomar State Beach to spend some time watching these dramatic crashing waves hitting the rocks. The foreground rocks, which I believe are granodiorite, were fascinating to examine, although I couldn't find out the names of everything growing on them.
